Low prices don’t necessarily mean Low Quality
Although it is not uncommon to find and purchase a replica watch, there are still many skeptics that with the low prices paid, these watches will not last longer than a few months. With a little knowledge on how to maintain your replica watch, you will get much more mileage out of it.
Here are some advice that we have put together that may be useful to every watch collector.
What exactly does water resistant mean?
Some watches are merely marked "water resistant" with no indication of depth or high pressure. These must still meet the terms of NIHS 92-10 standard (corresponding to international standard, ISO 2281). These watches are still designed for everyday life but should never be used for deep sea diving, of course.
Most watches come with a guarantee to a measured water depth. This means the casing and seal have been tested at the pressure indicated, and usually for some length of time.
All Watches
All watches should be cleaned and serviced every two years to ensure that they are trouble-free. Even quartz watches should be cleaned as any small particle can result in damage. At time of this regular maintenance, batteries and seals should also be replaced.
Rust is the enemy of all watches:
Any watch should be rinsed under fresh water after exposure to saltwater.
Don't unnecessarily subject your water-resistant watch to pressure or heat.
Remove your watch for hot showers, baths, saunas and hot tubs.
Immediately get your watch serviced if there is moisture inside the crystal.
When you change the date, you should not change it within three hours of midnight. At this time, the watch's regular date change is being carried out internally and should not be interfered with.
Leather bands should be protected from perfumes and water, especially saltwater.
Automatic Watches
These are not entirely self-maintaining. It's a good idea to wind your watch at least once every week or two. This helps to keep the oil fluid and the wheels moving.
If you do not wear your watch every day, be certain to wind it at least twice a week.
Mechanical Watches
It's good practice to wind your mechanical watch at the same time every day. This is very good for the mechanism. Watch aficionados know to wind their watch first thing in the morning as part of their own timekeeping and that of the watch.
Be aware that participation in sports such as golf or baseball, or any repetitive hand movements (as with some occupations) are very hard on the mechanism. These can permanently damage the watch's movement. Just remove your watch.
If the watch has stopped:
Be sure that the watch stem is pushed in.
Make sure that all dials and dial markers are properly fastened. If not, they may be blocking the hands from properly moving.
In some cases, the crystal may be chipped and blocking the hands.
The watch may be rusty. This is quite likely fatal, we’re sorry to say.
With electronic watches, some parts are replaceable.
If your manual or automatic watch is slowing down:
It may need to be wound properly.
It may need to be cleaned.
If your quartz watch is slowing down:
You may need to replace the battery.
The watch may need cleaning.
